NXF Statement of Support for Kindred Clinic Cork

The National LGBTQ+ Federation (NXF) is proud to endorse Kindred Clinic Cork, a vital peer-led trans health pilot service providing free, safe, local, and gender-affirming care to trans adults in Cork.
LGBTQ+ communities in Ireland deserve the resources and support needed to shape our own futures. We know what our communities need, and we have the vision, expertise, and determination to build it together. Kindred Clinic Cork, developed by Trans Healthcare Action and the Sexual Health Centre, is an example of what becomes possible when trans people are trusted and resourced to lead.
Developed through a community-based, co-produced, informed consent model, Kindred Clinic Cork demonstrates the value of centring those most impacted by systemic barriers in designing the solutions. At a time when trans people continue to face extensive obstacles in accessing healthcare, the clinic offers an approach that is responsive to community needs and grounded in dignity, autonomy, and self-determination.
The NXF believes that building a brighter future means investing in the people, organisations, and networks that sustain our movement. LGBTQ+ people in Ireland have always led the work of transforming society and systems towards justice, creating pathways forward where institutions have failed to support us. Kindred Clinic Cork continues that tradition of community innovation and leadership in the face of barriers.
We know that Ireland ranks worst in the EU for the accessibility and availability of trans healthcare, according to TGEU’s 2022 report. Through initiatives such as Kindred Clinic Cork, we can provide the support the community deserves.
The clinic demonstrates why alternative, community-led solutions are essential to realise equity for LGBTQ+ people. We hope this model will inspire government investment in community-based approaches to trans healthcare across Ireland.
