Chris Noone

Chris Noone is a queer man living in the west of Ireland. He is a lecturer in psychology at the University of Galway where he teaches community psychology and research methods. His research focuses on health inequalities, sexual health and how these intersect, especially within LGBTQ+ communities. Chris is also a founding member of the Professional Association for Trans Health Ireland (PATHI). He was also one of the founders of both the LGBT Staff Network at University of Galway and the Irish Sexualities and Genders Research Network.

Chris is passionate about challenging the narratives of risk and vulnerability that are often perpetuated in relation to our community by mainstream medical and psychological research. His work on LGBTQ+ health has been published in international academic journals such as Psychology and Sexuality, PLOS One, Vaccine, BMC Medical Research Methodology, the Journal of Advanced Nursing, AIDS Behaviour, and AIDS Care.

Chris has been involved in activism since getting involved in the campaign for marriage equality in 2015. He joined the board of the NXF in 2017 and has taken responsibility for the organisation’s research activities, including the publication of two reports – Far From Home: Life as an LGBT Migrant in Ireland and Across the Spectrum: Attitudes towards Minoritised Genders and Sexualities in Ireland. He was also on the research sub-committee for the steering committee of the first National LGBTI Inclusion Strategy. He is currently working with other members of the board and representatives of fellow community organisations on the NXF Activist Academy.
