Introducing the new National LGBTQ+ Federation (NXF)

Hello again, friends. It’s been a while. If you’ve been trying to keep up with the NXF through our website, you may have noticed the tumbleweeds lately…
…Sorry about that. But hey, we’re here now. And we’re ready to re-introduce ourselves.
Over the past year, we at the National LGBTQ+ Federation (NXF) have been working behind-the-scenes to reimagine who we are, what we’re here for, and how we present ourselves to the world. So we’ve got a new direction to share with you.
Our Identity
As Ireland’s longest-running LGBTQ+ organisation, we’ve been connecting, cultivating, and celebrating the movement for queer liberation since 1979 — and we’re not stopping anytime soon. In fact, we want to do better.
So we have collectively decided to return to our roots: we are disruptors advocating for a future where all LGBTQ+ people can live freely and without barriers. That means doing everything in our power to nurture a sustainable ecosystem of LGBTQ+ activists, campaigners, and organisations across Ireland — unabashedly.
Our identity is shaped by three key beliefs:

Collectivity
We believe that centring those most impacted by systemic oppression and building coalitions across our movement strengthens our collective resilience and power.

Solidarity
We believe that we must act in solidarity with other social movements across gender, migrant, economic, reproductive, and racial justice.

Resistance
We believe we honour the legacy of our ancestors and our duty to future generations by boldly challenging injustice, nurturing our movement, and manifesting queer liberation.
Our Brand
We realised that, with this realignment of who we are, we were missing something. You may have noticed the Q+ added to our name. That’s because we’re here for queer liberation, after all, and this organisation is for everyone in our community. We recognise that our name may continue to evolve over time, and we welcome it; in the words of Octavia Butler, “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you. The only lasting truth is change.”
We wanted to see this new identity reflected outward, so we’ve developed a new visual brand that is bold, unapologetic, and grounded in the activist spirit of Gilbert Baker’s rainbow flag, who once said, “We needed something to express our joy, our beauty, our power. And the rainbow did that.”
The strong, geometric shapes and vibrant colours within the brand represent our community’s freedom, liberation, and love for one another. This look reflects our history and vision for a brighter future. We hope you think so, too.
Our Website
We’ve reimagined our website as digital space to facilitate collaboration and collective action, share resources, drive community-led research, and advocate for policy change to better support our LGBTQ+ community. So we’ve set up spaces for Resources, News, and Projects.
We want this to be a space that any advocate or organisation can use, like a bulletin board or library for our community of LGBTQ+ activists. So send us anything you’d like to share and let us know if you have a project idea to collaborate on! This is for all of us.

Resources
where we’ll share our and your research, tools, guides, podcasts, and beyond — anything that will support the queer movement.

News
where we’ll share our and your key updates, analyses, events, and calls to action — anything worth uplifting for other LGBTQ+ organisers.

Projects
where you can find information about the work we’re doing, like collaborations, events, publications, courses, and archives.
Our Future
We envision an Ireland where all LGBTQ+ people — regardless of their sexuality, gender identity, or gender expression — live free and equal, without fear, oppression, discrimination, or violence. We know this future is possible. But only if our collective movement for queer liberation is given what it needs to flourish. We hope you’ll help us do just that.
Before we close out, we want to give a huge shoutout to Appscurry for generously donating their time to make this new website a reality and to Pradeep Mahadeshwar of Queer Asian Pride Ireland (QAPI) for crafting the beautiful illustrations you see throughout.
Alright, that about covers it. But this isn’t a statement, it’s a conversation. So drop us a line and let us know what you think, want, and need from us.
